New DNA Studies

The interest in DNA is the new frontier for those dedicated to searching down their family history, so a study that unveils startling new results in determining the DNA of Europeans is an important step in discovering our genetic origins.

The new study, led by the Centre for GeoGenetics at the University of Copenhagen with a team of international researchers including the University of Cambridge, is an exciting and immensely complex piece of work. It has long been believed that modern Europeans descended from indigenous hunters and Middle Eastern farmers but the work done in the present paper compares nine ancient genomes to a group of modern humans and identified a new population, the Northern Eurasions. This is an important group as it also links people who travelled across the Bering Strait into the Americas.

The scope of the work is immense, for an excellent read visit the University of Cambridge research page.
